David Gates, a founding member of the iconic soft rock band Bread, has been nominated for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s 2025 class. Gates is recognized for his songwriting prowess, having penned many of Bread’s biggest hits, including “Make It with You,” “Everything I Own,” and “Diana.” His introspective and heartfelt lyrics, combined with his distinctive vocals, helped define the soft rock sound of the 1970s.

 

Gates’ nomination highlights his significant contribution to popular music and his enduring legacy as a songwriter. If inducted, he would join a prestigious list of music legends honored by the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
