Oklahoma is No. 1.
Sounds familiar, huh?
The four-time defending national champion has risen to the top of The Oklahoman’s College Softball Super 16 for the first time this season — and it’s understandable.
The Sooners are the last remaining undefeated team in major-college softball.
And they kept their undefeated record intact by sweeping the only other undefeated team. OU won all three of its games against South Carolina this past weekend in Norman.
It was the kind of series you’d expect between two undefeated teams. OU won the first game in walk-off fashion in the seventh inning, then had to turn back a South Carolina seventh-inning rally in the second game. The third game didn’t have as many late theatrics, but it was another close shave, OU winning 2-1.
In the end, wins all count the same, and OU’s perfect record was enough to give it a one-point advantage in the rankings.
