Former Springbok Sevens Star Seabelo Senatla Opens Up About Alcohol Addiction Struggle

In a candid and moving interview, former Springbok Sevens star Seabelo Senatla has opened up about his battle with alcohol addiction. The two-time Rugby World Cup Sevens champion revealed that his struggles began following his retirement from professional rugby in 2021.

Senatla shared that he found it difficult to adjust to life after rugby, experiencing feelings of emptiness and loss of purpose. He turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism, which quickly spiraled into a serious addiction.

“I started questioning my optimistic nature and I think that’s when I turned into my relationship with alcohol,” Senatla explained. “I couldn’t do anything else, it was just sitting around and waiting to heal, I had no purpose.”

Senatla acknowledged that his addiction had a significant impact on his personal and professional life. He sought professional help and underwent rehabilitation, which he credits with helping him regain control of his life.

“That rehab experience helped to refill my bucket,” Senatla said. “Right now, I feel like I’m back, I feel like the bucket is full again and I’m so full of life, I want to live life and I want to live it within God’s will for my life.”

Senatla’s openness about his struggles is commendable and will undoubtedly help to raise awareness about alcohol addiction and encourage others seeking help. He emphasized the importance of seeking support and not being afraid to ask for help.

“If one person can learn from my story, I would be living within God’s will for my life,” Senatla concluded.
