Much has been written about Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers’ decision-making process and whether he should have returned to college football.
He ultimately opted to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, announcing his decision on Wednesday night.
However, according to Horns247’s Chip Brown, Ewers declined a $8 million offer from an unnamed school to leave Texas and enter the transfer process.
“Texas was the only place he wanted to play college football,” Ewers’ high school coach Riley Dodge told Brown. “He wanted to leave Texas in good standing.”
The Miami Hurricanes were one of the schools believed to have interested in Ewers. However, that was before they signed former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck via the portal.
In his three seasons as a starter, Ewers finished fourth in school history in wins with a 27-9 record, one win behind Bobby Layne, who started four seasons.
Ewers became one of only four quarterbacks to lead the Longhorns to a Big 12 championship, including Young, McCoy, and James Brown. By leading the Horns to an SEC Championship in their first year in the conference, Ewers became the first Texas quarterback to lead his team to back-to-back conference titles.
Of course, Ewers guided the Longhorns to their only two College Football Playoff berths in program history, falling just short of winning the national championship in each.
Statistically, Ewers is third in school history in throwing yards (9,128 yards) and passing touchdowns (68). He also has the third and fourth most single-season passing yardage totals in school history (3,479 in 2023 and 3,472 in 2024), as well as the third most throwing touchdowns in a single season (31 in 2024).
He now heads to the NFL, where he may follow in the footsteps of Longhorn legends like Sam Ehlinger, Colt McCoy, and Vince Young and build a name for himself at the next level.
