Former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore had a two-word response to the New England Patriots’ new dynamic cornerback pairing of Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis.
“This tough,” Gilmore posted on X, followed by a fire emoji.
Gonzalez emerged as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL in only his second full season last year. He earned his first All-Pro nod and helped solidify a defensive backfield that was a strength for the Patriots.
Unfortunately for opposing quarterbacks, the Patriots inked Davis to a three-year deal in free agency. Davis is a former Super Bowl champion with a strong reputation for his sticky coverage.
Cincinnati Bengals star wideout Ja’Marr Chase even went as far as admitting he was the toughest cornerback he faced back in 2023.
Gilmore helped lead the Patriots’ defense that completely stifled and nearly shut out a high-powered Los Angeles Rams offense at Super Bowl LIII.
Seeing the excitement from a player of his caliber, a future Pro Football Hall of Famer, should have Patriots fans excited for the 2025 season.
