The Detroit Lions are a team that desperately wants to improve this offseason after a disappointing end to the 2024 campaign.
The Lions had an earlier-than-expected playoff exit this past season, and the team undoubtedly wants to correct that in 2025. This roster doesn’t have many holes, but adding a quality pass-rusher opposite Aidan Hutchinson should be a priority.
Myles Garrett is one of the best pass-rushers in the league and the star recently requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. Naturally, the Lions are an obvious possible candidate for Garrett, as the veteran made it known he’s seeking to play for a contender.
NFL insider Albert Breer joined the Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday and the Garrett situation was brought up. Breer was noticeably excited when imaginingg Garrett on the Lions.
“My favorite destination (for Garrett) would be Detroit,” declared Breer. “They’re in a spot now where they don’t need their first-round pick.”
Breer went on to explain that the Lions’ roster is so loaded that only five or six rookies might make the team anyway, so why not flip some picks?
“I mean, God, the idea of Myles Garrett opposite Aidan Hutchinson, like, that to me is really intriguing,” said Breer. “Detroit’s in a championship window right now.”
Garrett racked up 14 sacks and a career-best 22 tackles for loss in 2024. The veteran has collected double-digit sacks in seven of his eight NFL seasons and has earned four first-team All-Pro and six Pro Bowl selections.
A player like Garrett doesn’t become available every day, and as Breer mentioned, the Lions are in a championship window. It won’t be easy, but getting Garrett to the Motor City would undoubtedly ensure that the Lions are a Super Bowl favorite in 2025.
