ESPN expert Mel Kiper remains high on Maxwell Hairston, as evidenced by his latest mock draft.
Hairston slots in as a first rounder again in Kiper’s 3.0 mock draft, which was published this morning. He has the Kentucky cornerback drafted by the Buffalo Bills 30th overall in his latest edition.
“Hairston can fly. He ran a 4.28-second 40-yard dash at the combine, the fastest time at the event this year,” Kiper said. “And he has the hands to make plays, with six picks over the past two seasons.”
Kiper points to a lack of depth in Buffalo’s secondary as his reasoning for them selecting Hairston.
Teams were able to throw against Buffalo last season, completing 68.5% of their passes into coverage. That was fifth worst in the league, and worst among playoff teams. Rasul Douglas is unsigned, and his outside corner spot opposite Christian Benford is currently held by new addition Dane Jackson,” Kiper said. “More depth is needed.”
Hairston is the fourth cornerback off the board, only trailing Colorado’s Travis Hunter (2nd), Michigan’s Will Johnson (11th), and Texas’ Jahdae Barron (13th).
