McLaren Unveils ‘Triple Crown’ Livery for Monaco and Spanish Grands Prix
In celebration of its 60th anniversary, McLaren Racing has unveiled a special ‘Triple Crown’ livery for the upcoming Monaco and Spanish Grands Prix. This unique design pays homage to the team’s historic victories in motorsport’s three most prestigious races: the Indianapolis 500, the Monaco Grand Prix, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The livery features a three-part color scheme, each segment representing one of McLaren’s landmark wins. The front of the car is painted black, honoring the McLaren F1 GTR that triumphed at Le Mans in 1995. The middle section showcases an “ice white” hue, reminiscent of Alain Prost’s 1984 Monaco Grand Prix-winning MP4/2. The rear is adorned in the team’s signature papaya orange, celebrating Johnny Rutherford’s 1974 Indianapolis 500 victory in the M16C/D.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown expressed pride in the team’s unique achievement: “Having achieved the greatest accomplishment in motorsport by completing the Triple Crown, we are proud to celebrate the rich history of McLaren Racing with a special livery at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix.” He emphasized that the design not only commemorates past victories but also honors the legacy of team founder Bruce McLaren.
Drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will debut the livery at the Monaco Grand Prix, a circuit where McLaren has secured 15 victories since 1984. Norris, who achieved a podium finish at Monaco in 2021, remarked on the significance of the design: “It’s a privilege to be involved in McLaren Racing’s 60th anniversary celebrations and to combine three iconic race-winning McLaren liveries into one for the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix is going to be a special moment for the whole team.”
The special livery will also feature at the Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. This continuation underscores McLaren’s commitment to celebrating its storied past while looking forward to future successes. The team aims to inspire both fans and team members by highlighting its rich heritage and the milestones that have defined its journey.
In addition to the livery, McLaren has announced the release of five showcase films detailing the stories behind each of the Triple Crown victories. These films will feature narratives from legendary drivers such as Johnny Rutherford, Alain Prost, and JJ Lehto, providing fans with an in-depth look at the moments that have shaped McLaren’s illustrious history.
