The Detroit Lions continue to lose games. Following an upset loss to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs, they have now lost Aaron Glenn to the New York Jets head coaching job, while Ben Johnson left for the Chicago Bears head coaching position.
Glenn, the Lions’ former defensive coordinator, and Johnson, the Lions’ former offensive coordinator, were both considered top head coaching prospects this offseason. Sure enough, less than a week after their season ended, both guys have found new homes.
There’s no doubt that this will put a pressure on Dan Campbell as he works to reconstitute his suddenly reduced coaching staff. While his players would prefer not to see Glenn and Johnson leave, rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold expressed his strong support for the Jets’ new head coach shortly after the news broke. “Couldn’t be happier for you, coach. Thanks for everything you taught me in year one,” Arnold wrote in a post on X, now known as Twitter.
