Kyson Witherspoon Named to Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List

 Oklahoma junior right-handed pitcher Kyson Witherspoon was named to the 2025 Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. USA Baseball announced the 45 honorees on Thursday.

Witherspoon, recently named the Midseason Top Pitcher by D1 Baseball and Midseason Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game, has put together a dominant first half of the season on the mound. The righty ranks second in the SEC and fifth in the country with 64 strikeouts and second in the league and sixth in the NCAA in strikeouts per nine innings (14.77).

The OU ace has been exceptional in his Friday night role, holding a 5-1 record in seven starts with a 64-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio that ranks second in the SEC. The Jacksonville, Fla., product has struck out a career-high 12 batters in two of his seven starts and recorded double-digit strikeouts in three games. Opposing batters are hitting just .189 against Witherspoon, who has surrendered just seven extra-base hits in 39.0 innings pitched.

Witherspoon is one of 14 Southeastern Conference student-athletes on the midseason watch list, leading all conferences in selections.

The Golden Spikes Award semifinalist announcement will be May 18. Fans can then vote for their favorite players on GoldenSpikesAward.com to help determine the finalists and winner. The 2025 Golden Spikes Award winner will be announced in late June in conjunction with the end of the amateur baseball season.
