Jye Amiss Highlights Fremantle’s Forward Line Revival in Victory Over GWS
Fremantle forward Jye Amiss has emphasized the team’s renewed focus on leading patterns and forward structure following their 34-point win over Greater Western Sydney during the Sir Doug Nicholls Round. By halftime, the Dockers had already recorded seven marks inside the forward 50, surpassing their total from the previous week’s game against Collingwood, where they managed only six marks inside 50 despite 61 entries. Amiss remarked, “We feel like as a forward group, when we’re playing at our best, that’s our strength – being able to lead and repeat lead” .
The improved forward efficiency was a response to the team’s earlier struggles. In the match against Collingwood, Fremantle’s tall forwards, including Amiss, Josh Treacy, and Patrick Voss, faced challenges in converting inside 50 entries into scoring opportunities. Coach Justin Longmuir acknowledged the issue, stating, “We were a bit haphazard with the way we kicked the ball in there at times,” highlighting the need for better ball movement and decision-making inside the forward arc .
Amiss credited the team’s collective effort and defensive pressure for the turnaround. He noted that when the entire team commits to their roles, especially in defense, it creates opportunities for the forwards. This cohesive approach was evident in the game against GWS, where the Dockers’ pressure led to a significant drop in the Giants’ goal accuracy, recording just 36%, well below the competition average .
The synergy between Amiss and fellow forward Josh Treacy has been instrumental in Fremantle’s attacking strategy. Their understanding and coordination have allowed them to create space and opportunities for each other, enhancing the team’s overall forward dynamics .
Amiss’s personal development has also contributed to his performance. He underwent an off-season transformation, adding size and strength to his 196cm frame, which has improved his ability to compete in one-on-one contests. “I feel really comfortable with where my body is at now,” Amiss stated, reflecting on his enhanced physical presence on the field .
Looking ahead, the Dockers aim to build on this momentum, focusing on consistency and execution in their forward play. Amiss expressed optimism, saying, “We’ve still got so much more to go, but today was a really good stepping stone” . With a renewed emphasis on structure and teamwork, Fremantle is poised to strengthen their position in the league.
