In the Sam Raimi-produced thriller, Anthony Hopkins tortures thief Bill Skarsgård.

Move over, John Kramer — there’s a new warped vigilante in town! And this isn’t any ordinary homicidal nut; it’s Hannibal Lecter himself, Sir Anthony Hopkins. In David Yarovesky’s upcoming thriller Locked, Hopkins plays William, a chilling killer who traps Eddie (Bill Skarsgård) in his luxurious SUV when he tries to steal it. As a result, William resorts to various forms of sadistic, car-based torture to punish Eddie while his hostage battles for his life. And you can watch the teaser for Sam Raimi’s horror thriller, a remake of the original 2019 Argentinian effort 4×4 (which has previously been adapted as the 2022 Brazilian film A Jaula), below:

“I just want to introduce you to a little taste of hell,” Hopkins’ William — only heard, never seen — warns Eddie in this jaw-droppingly intense debut teaser for Locked. Skarsgård’s peroxide carjacker is repeatedly tased, starved, chilled, and driven insane by his dulcet toned tormentor. Yarovesky’s film has the hooky high concept, propulsive feel, and tightly coiled tension to be a low-key banger. The film stars Skarsgård and Hopkins, two actors who have brought to life some of cinema’s most iconic villains.

Will William achieve the justice he so desperately seeks? Will Eddie be able to escape the world’s most strict kid lock? And is anyone else going to point out that this is, in a roundabout sense, a sort of stealth spiritual sequel to both Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Nosferatu, with Abraham Van Helsing and Dracula (in all but name) facing off once more? We’ll find out the answers to at least a number of those questions when Locked enters theatres on March 21st in the United States, and likely soon after here.
