The Dallas Cowboys are now looking for a new coach after they split with head coach Mike McCarthy on Monday, January 13. There are numerous names in the running, and since the Cowboys are “America’s Team,” it goes without saying that a wide range of people will be interested in the position.
The Cowboys will eventually hire a person that is well-known to the organization and its supporters, according to an intriguing prediction made by an NFL expert and commentator.
Projects for ESPN NFL Analysts Fresh In an article published on January 14, Dan Graziano, the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, says he thinks the team will speak with a variety of coaches from both the NFL and college football. Marcus Freeman of Notre Dame, Lincoln Riley of USC, Steve Sarkisian of Texas, and Matt Campbell of Iowa State are some of the college coaches he thinks will visit and depart Dallas during the interview process.
However, one name is more prominent than the others. According to Graziano, Dallas will appoint Kellen Moore, the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles and a former Cowboy, as its head coach. Moore is somewhat familiar with the Cowboys because he was a player for them as well.
Graziano wrote in the story, “The Cowboys are obviously still extremely early in their process, and we have no idea how extensive their interview list will be once they get rolling.” Moore, however, has a clear link to the franchise and its current quarterback. Moore played for the Cowboys from 2015 to 2017 (including two years as Dak Prescott’s backup quarterback), served as the team’s quarterbacks coach for a year, and then served as offensive coordinator for four more years.
Moore has previously interviewed for head coaching roles and is doing so this cycle, Graziano continued.
Graziano points out that Moore’s offense with the Philadelphia Eagles is ranked sixth with 26.7 points per game. In contrast, the Cowboys’ offense finished 25th in the league this season with an average of 18.9 points per game.
On Sunday, January 19, the Philadelphia Eagles will meet the Los Angeles Rams at Lincoln Financial Field in the playoffs’ divisional round.
Jerry Jones Bids Mike McCarthy Farewell
In his letter about firing McCarthy, Cowboys owner, president, and general manager Jerry Jones praised the coach for his tenure with the organization and stated that the team was eager to move on right away.
In addition to spending a lot of time talking about the team’s future, Jones said, “Mike and I had the chance to do a joint review of all aspects of the previous season, our players, and our staff over the past week.” “These conversations were in-depth and given enough time and attention to cover.” However, Jones stated that “it became mutually clear that it would be better for each of us to head in a different direction” prior to contract discussions.
Jones also expressed his gratitude to McCarthy and his best wishes for the former Cowboys coach, “his wife Jessica,” and their family. They have been a fantastic addition to this town.
The Dallas Cowboys were also beginning “a search process immediately to hire the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys,” according to Jones.
