Disney+ Puts Kim Soo-hyun’s Knock-Off on Ice Indefinitely Amid Scandal – ₩180B Penalty Rumors Swirl

At a recent Disney+ Open House event held in Seoul on May 23, it was officially confirmed that the highly anticipated drama Knock-Off, starring Kim Soo-hyun, will remain indefinitely postponed. The delay follows the actor’s involvement in a personal controversy, which has cast uncertainty over the project’s future. Despite growing public interest, Disney+ declined to offer further details or confirm a revised release date during the event.

Choi Yeon-woo, the Head of Local Content at Walt Disney Company Korea, addressed the media but remained tight-lipped about the drama’s status. He reiterated that the series remains on hold after an internal review, with no changes to the previously announced postponement. Choi’s comments confirmed that the company is maintaining a cautious stance amid the unresolved situation involving the lead actor.

Originally set for a 2025 premiere, Knock-Off has been excluded from the official content lineup released by Disney+. In its place, several other dramas and series have been announced, such as Tempest, Made in Korea, Low Life, The Murky Stream, and The Manipulated, all scheduled to air later in the year. Additionally, titles like Delusion and War of Fate 49 are on the slate for 2026, signaling a shift in Disney+’s programming priorities.

Amid these developments, speculation has intensified regarding the financial implications of the delay. Rumors have circulated that Disney+ may face a penalty of up to ₩180 billion KRW (approximately $132 million USD) due to contractual obligations linked to Knock-Off. When asked directly about the possibility of such a fine, Choi refused to comment, indicating that the company is not in a position to address that issue publicly at this time.

The uncertainty surrounding Knock-Off has not only frustrated fans but also raised concerns within the entertainment industry. As one of the most high-profile K-drama projects under the Disney+ banner, its indefinite postponement marks a significant setback. Industry observers are watching closely to see how the situation evolves and whether Disney+ will eventually resume the drama’s release or cancel it altogether.

In the meantime, public interest in both Kim Soo-hyun’s situation and Disney+’s decision-making process remains high. With no clear resolution in sight, the drama’s fate hangs in the balance. As Disney+ continues to promote its upcoming lineup, the absence of Knock-Off serves as a reminder of how off-screen controversies can derail even the most promising entertainment ventures.
