The West Virginia University Track & Field team is no longer a quiet contender, having emphatically established itself among the nation’s elite in college athletics. Demonstrating remarkable dominance across multiple events, the Mountaineers have earned significant national recognition for their outstanding performances.
This ascent is highlighted by their recent No. 9 national ranking in the Terry Crawford Program of the Year Award by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, acknowledging their consistent success across cross country, indoor, and outdoor track & field seasons. This year, the Mountaineers secured impressive finishes, placing 2nd in cross country, 23rd in indoor track and field, and 24th in outdoor track and field at their respective NCAA Championships.
Individual achievements have also propelled WVU into the spotlight, with Ceili McCabe claiming the NCAA indoor 3,000 meters national title, becoming the first Mountaineer in program history to win this event at an indoor or outdoor championship. Additionally, Joy Naukot and Sarah Tait earned First Team All-American honors at the recent NCAA Outdoor Championships, with Naukot placing third in the 10,000-meter run and Tait fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The Mountaineers are truly “running the show,” showcasing a comprehensive strength that has positioned them as a formidable force in collegiate track and field.
