Kim Sae-Ron May Have Borrowed 100M KRW From Three Celeb Friends Before Tragic Death Amid Kim Soo-Hyun Controversy

Actress Kim Sae-Ron, who tragically passed away earlier this year, was previously involved in a DUI incident in 2022 that reportedly led to severe financial difficulties. During that period, she was said to be in desperate need of funds and had sought assistance from some of her close celebrity friends. The media suggested that her increasing debt burden may have contributed to her death, fueling speculation that it may have been a suicide.

In a touching and somber post revealed posthumously, Kim Sae-Ron expressed gratitude toward three celebrity friends who supported her financially. She had reportedly left instructions to share the names of those who helped her once she passed away. These individuals supposedly stepped in during her most vulnerable moments and helped her pay off large sums of debt before the controversy surrounding actor Kim Soo-Hyun came to public attention.

According to Korean media outlet SBS FunE, cited by Koreaboo, Kim Sae-Ron borrowed a total of 300 million KRW from three separate celebrity friends, receiving 100 million KRW from each. This money was reportedly used to cover compensation tied to her DUI accident, where she crashed into an electric transformer in Seoul. The damage caused widespread power outages and led to costly repairs and compensation demands she couldn’t afford on her own.

Sae-Ron had once posted a now-recovered Instagram story thanking her friends and reflecting on those who had abandoned her. She stated that if she ever died, she wished for the screenshot of her appreciation post to be shared. In the message, she clarified details about the incident, explaining that despite the lack of a blackout and a relatively clean breathalyzer result, she still bore the financial consequences fully, and was deeply hurt by how people had treated her afterward.

Further details from SBS FunE reveal that two members of a popular idol group and one well-known singer each lent her 100 million KRW. Additionally, two actors reportedly provided her with smaller, unspecified financial contributions. The singer, referred to as Singer C, confirmed in a statement that he lent her 12 million KRW in late 2023 and another 8 million KRW in mid-2024, with the funds being directed to her family’s bank account.

Kim Sae-Ron also borrowed 50 million KRW from a business associate and owed 60 million KRW to her former agency, Run Entertainment. These numbers paint a grim picture of her financial status at the time, reflecting a young star caught in an overwhelming cycle of debt and legal troubles with seemingly limited support from the broader industry.

Despite her fame and talent, the actress faced immense hardships. Many fans were unaware that she was shouldering this burden largely on her own. The incident and its aftermath highlight the darker, often hidden struggles celebrities can endure, especially when controversies and scandals turn public perception against them.

Kim Sae-Ron passed away on February 16, 2025, at the age of 24. Her story continues to resonate across Korea and the entertainment world, as fans, friends, and fellow actors reflect on the pressures she faced and the kindness of those who stood by her during her most difficult moments.
