Max Verstappen reveals reason behind missing F1 movie screening

Max Verstappen Skips F1 Movie Screening to Prioritize Family Time

Reigning Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen has clarified his decision to miss the exclusive screening of the upcoming F1 movie, starring Brad Pitt, held in Monaco ahead of the Grand Prix weekend. Verstappen, along with Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, was one of only two drivers absent from the event, which was attended by the rest of the grid and several team principals.

Addressing the media, Verstappen explained that his absence was due to a desire to spend quality time at home with his family, particularly following the recent birth of his daughter with partner Kelly Piquet. He emphasized that the screening was not a mandatory event and that he had informed Formula One Management (FOM) of his intentions well in advance. “I just wanted to spend more time at home. It wasn’t a mandatory event either; it was just my private time. And I prefer to spend that private time at home, especially because in Formula 1 you’re away from home so much already,” Verstappen stated .

While his colleagues attended the screening, Verstappen was seen participating in an online sim racing session with his Team Redline squad, using the alias “Franz Hermann.” This choice aligns with his known preference for a more private lifestyle and his selective participation in Formula 1’s media-related activities. Verstappen has previously expressed reservations about certain promotional aspects of the sport, including the Netflix series “Drive to Survive” and events like the Las Vegas Grand Prix .

Despite missing the early viewing, Verstappen expressed interest in the film and plans to watch it upon its official release. “I will download it on Apple. Of course, I get it. There was the opportunity to watch it, but if I watch it now or in three or four weeks, it’s fine as well. I’ve heard good stuff from the movie, so I am sure it’s going to be exciting,” he remarked .

The film, co-produced by Lewis Hamilton and directed by Joseph Kosinski, aims to provide an authentic portrayal of Formula 1 racing, incorporating real-life drivers and race footage. Hamilton, who was present at the screening, expressed both excitement and nervousness about the drivers’ reactions, highlighting his commitment to ensuring the film’s realism and quality .

Verstappen’s decision underscores his commitment to balancing professional responsibilities with personal life, a stance that continues to define his approach to the sport’s evolving landscape.
