Jo Bo Ah Reclaims Spotlight in Lee Jae Wook’s Dear Hongrang, Leaving Behind Knock-Off Drama and Kim Soo Hyun Buzz

Jo Bo Ah is making waves with her impressive return in Dear Hongrang, a new Netflix series where she stars alongside Lee Jae Wook. This marks her first acting endeavor since tying the knot, and she’s stepping confidently into a bold, emotionally charged role. With this project, she moves beyond the setbacks caused by the Knock-Off delay and the recent controversies involving Kim Soo Hyun.

The Disney+ series Knock-Off, in which Jo Bo Ah was also a lead, faced an indefinite postponement. The delay came amid a minor dating controversy between Kim Soo Hyun and fellow cast member Kim Sae Ron. The announcement surprised many fans who had eagerly awaited the show’s debut, adding uncertainty for the actors involved.

Despite these unforeseen hurdles, Jo Bo Ah chose not to let the disappointment hold her back. She quickly transitioned her focus to Dear Hongrang, her first official project since her marriage. At a press event for the show, she candidly expressed a mix of nervousness and excitement. “It took a while, but we’re finally ready,” she noted, referencing the lengthy production process.

Jo Bo Ah explained that it was the heartfelt sibling relationship in the storyline that attracted her to the drama. She was drawn to the character of Sim Jae I because of her own close connection with her younger brother. “The love between siblings really resonated with me,” she said, highlighting the emotional depth the series brings.

She also had high praise for her co-star Lee Jae Wook, commending his commitment and dedication to his role. According to Jo Bo Ah, Lee’s sincerity and passion stood out throughout filming, creating a positive and collaborative on-set experience. His performance inspired her and contributed to her growth during the project.

Though Knock-Off was initially slated to be her comeback project, its delay allowed Dear Hongrang to take center stage. Jo Bo Ah embraced the shift and expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to connect with viewers through this new story. Her optimism reflects her adaptability and love for her craft.

Set during the final years of the Joseon era, Dear Hongrang follows the mysterious reappearance of Hong Rang, the son of a wealthy family involved in the art trade. After being missing for a decade, he returns with no recollection of his childhood or identity. His half-sister, Jae I, once deeply attached to him, is now thrust into uncertainty and emotional turmoil.

Jae I, graceful yet hardened by life’s struggles, must face the resurfacing of the one person she truly trusted. Living under the roof of a cruel stepmother and an indifferent father, Jae I sees her brother’s return as both a blessing and a new mystery. Together, they begin a journey to uncover hidden truths, both about Hong Rang’s past and the secrets their family has long concealed. Viewers can catch the series premiere on Netflix starting May 16.
