One of the best teams in the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs, will try to add players to their roster before the March 7 trade deadline.
Users can make their own trades using the PuckGM tool on the website PuckPedia. In a three-player blockbuster, one user suggested that the Maple Leafs trade Easton Cowan to the Colorado Avalanche.
The Maple Leafs obtain:
Avalanche Casey Mittelstadt purchases:
Max Domi Easton Cowan second-round selection in 2025
Although Toronto would receive their third-line center in the suggested deal, they would have to give up their top prospect, Cowan. Although it may sound excessive for Toronto, the Maple Leafs would have to pay more because they would be released from Domi’s contract.
Mittelstadt and the Avalanche are in the first year of a three-year, $17.25 million contract. The top forward’s name has surfaced in trade discussions after he was moved to Colorado at the deadline last year. Depending on where they play John Tavares, the forward would be either Toronto’s second or third-line center. In 61 games, Mittelstadt has scored 33 points with 10 goals and 23 assists.
Toronto’s top prospect, Cowan, would be acquired by Colorado. Cowan is projected to be a middle-six forward and is probably going to play in the NHL next season.
Domi, who is in the first year of a $15 million, four-year contract, would also be traded by the Maple Leafs. However, the Maple Leafs may be considering moving the fan-favorite forward’s contract because he has failed with Toronto.
GM of the Maple Leafs Wants to “Aid” the Team at Deadline
This season, Toronto is a clear cup favorite and leads the Atlantic Division.
The Maple Leafs want to expand their squad in order to increase their chances of winning before the trade deadline on March 7.
“I am pleased with the group’s current state,” stated Brad Treliving, general manager of the Maple Leafs. Other than saying that we’re going to try to help ourselves, I won’t go into too much detail regarding the deadline. Our goal is to try to make our team better. Isn’t that a significant piece of news? … We definitely want to assist ourselves. We shall observe the course of events.
Treliving cautions supporters that there might not be a significant move even though Toronto is guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. He wants to improve the Maple Leafs, though.
It goes a long way toward expressing my admiration for our team. By Friday, I want to see if we can improve upon today’s situation.
With a 38-20-3 record, the Maple Leafs lead the Atlantic Division.
Avalanche Willing to Exchange Mittelstadt
At last year’s trade deadline, Colorado acquired Mittelstadt for Bowen Byram, and he might already be on the move once more.
Prior to the deadline, Mittelstadt is ranked sixth on Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff’s trade bait board, indicating that he hasn’t fit in as well as the Avalanche had planned.
“It’s safe to say that neither side has been captivated by the one-for-one swap that was one of the true surprises of Deadline 2024, especially since Mittelstadt and Bowen Byram are both on our Targets board,” Seravalli said. Mittelstadt would offer some cost certainty going ahead because, in contrast to Byram, he is at least under contract for two more seasons after this one. He simply hasn’t fit in or been as effective in Jared Bednar’s lineup, and the Avalanche are reportedly open to changing things up if they can strike a good deal.
In the Western Conference, the Avalanche continue to occupy the top Wild Card slot.
