Superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays were unable to agree on a contract deal this offseason. Given that Guerrero will be eligible for free agency at the end of the current campaign, Toronto might try to move him under certain conditions.
The best course of action might be to trade the superstar if the Blue Jays are out of the playoff picture and don’t think they’ll re-sign him. Sportskeeda’s Jared Bloom recently forecasted that the Blue Jays would make the unexpected move of trading Guerrero to the Boston Red Sox, their nemesis.
“The Toronto Blue Jays and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. were unable to reach an agreement on an extension. The slugger will now be a free agency after the 2025 season concludes,” Bloom wrote. “Toronto may try to transfer Guerrero Jr. if they don’t think they can re-sign him in the offseason. The Boston Red Sox, who don’t appear to be all that dedicated to having Triston Casas at first base, would be a good fit for him. It wouldn’t make much sense for the Blue Jays to deal Guerrero to the Red Sox, but they might consider doing so. Boston may attract Toronto’s attention if it were to trade away enough players.
Triston Casas would probably be the star in exchange for any deal here. Several additional top-five prospects would probably need to be traded by the Red Sox as well. They might also consider sending Wilyer Abreu. This deal doesn’t make much sense, but any trade for Guerrero would need to be stacked with talent. Guerrero will most likely be available in free agency next winter if the Red Sox wish to sign him.
