Jets Set to strike Giants blockbuster double deal more likely after Davante Adams news

They won’t get Cooper Kupp or Matthew Stafford, but the New York Giants might be able to sign Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams instead, especially in light of the most recent information on the latter.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Adams was placed on the trading block on Sunday, March 2, but he will be released if the New York Jets are unable to find a partner to trade with.

Adams is anticipated to be released if they are unable to reach an agreement; he may then sign with another team and rejoin quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The Giants should be interested in having a receiver of Adams’ caliber available. Especially since where former Green Bay Packers teammate Rodgers plays football in 2025 may determine where he goes next.

Last season, Adams accompanied his quarterback to the Jets, and the 41-year-old passer will soon be available for purchase. The Giants would be less hurt by losing out on Stafford if they signed Rodgers.

Despite Big Blue’s rumored interest, the latter remained with the Los Angeles Rams. Although Stafford may have brought Kupp, a wide receiver and fellow trade chip, to MetLife Stadium, a Rodgers and Adams double act would have been equally effective.

“People were thinking Stafford + Kupp, but the Giants can add Rodgers + Davante & it comes at no draft cost,” said Dan Schneier of CBS Sports. The $$ is not a concern for me. There is a lot of short-term cap flexibility for the team. Leaves open the door for QB at 3 too. Rodgers, Nabers, Adams. I’ve heard worse ideas.”

It’s more difficult to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of adding Rodgers, but the Giants should consider any deal for Adams.

The Giants Make Sense with Davante Adams

The Giants’ decision to sign Adams makes sense. Despite his 2024 numbers not reflecting it, he is still a top receiver.

Adams recorded his lowest total since the 2019 season, but surpassing 1,000 yards for the sixth consecutive season. Splitting time between the Jets and Las Vegas Raiders didn’t help, and Adams still offered glimpses of the talent that’s made him a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro.

According to Receiver School, one noteworthy instance was in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers, when Adams ran a “subtle” route to get free over the middle.

Prior to the plant, observe the procedure. You’ll notice that he speeds up right before speed cutting.

Being an accomplished technician has defined Adams’ game since he entered the NFL as a second-round draft pick in 2014. Few receivers are as multi-layered and intuitive out of their breaks as Adams.

Another good example of superior technique in action is this “route stem” against the Los Angeles Rams, highlighted by Underdog Fantasy’s Sosa Kremenjas.

The route stem, rocker step, suddenness, stepping on the DBs toes.

Few are as technically great as Davante Adams, still to this day.

Adams would be the perfect target for whoever plays quarterback next for the Giants. There are plenty of options, even after Stafford’s decision, but Rodgers is not one of the best choices.

Aaron Rodgers Deal One for Giants to Avoid

Rodgers still has arm talent levels above anything the Giants have fielded at football’s most important position in recent years. He’s also somebody who would bring Adams with him, according to SNY.tv’s Connor Hughes.
