LATEST GIST: Michael Schumacher’s son’s F1 career is ‘finished’ following surprising decision

Michael Schumacher's son's F1 career could be 'over' following shock decision

Michael Schumacher’s son’s Formula One career could be ended, as one team considers his future in the sport.

Mick Schumacher, whose father is Michael Schumacher, a great seven-time Formula One champion, has seen his career stall after being released by Haas in 2022.

Since then, he has tried a variety of jobs, including acting as a Mercedes reserve driver to demonstrate his worth, but has unable to secure a regular seat.

However, with Sauber officially rebranding as Audi for the 2026 season, Schumacher may have an opportunity, as the team has already begun preparing their driver lineup in anticipation of the shift.

Nico Hulkenberg has already signed a multi-year contract with the squad, but with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz choosing to join Williams despite links to Audi, the door is still open for Schumacher.

Speaking on the scenario, Red Bull chief Helmut Marko told Sport.de, via The Sun, “I think Schumacher’s Formula One career is over if he doesn’t get that Audi seat.” Then he must concentrate on long-distance races in the WEC, where he has previously achieved great success. If he wants to stay in motorsport, he needs to find something he enjoys while also having a chance to win.

“I don’t think Audi’s car will win next year.” This means Audi and its drivers will not be under any strain. It would be a fitting parallel to Nico Hulkenberg. If his performance is not satisfactory, you can always change him in 2026.

“If the situation is really that Valtteri Bottas gets the chance, then the whole thing is even more incomprehensible to me,” according to the Austrian.

Schumacher provided his own perspective on the subject, but declined to confirm any such action at this time.

“Time will tell,” he told the German publication BILD.

“Time is of the essence at this point. “There is nothing to say right now.”

“I do not want to tell what the chances are or how it appears. “In the end, time will tell,” Schumacher remarked.

The Swiss-born driver has impressed in numerous driving competitions, including the World Endurance Championship. He is also a former Formula Two and Formula Three champion.

“I guess I’ll deal with it if plan A fails. We will simply think that Plan A works. We do our best to make things work, but plan B must be in the back of my mind because I’m not sure where it’s heading right now,” he added.
