Veteran Nat Fyfe has trained with Fremantle’s main group for the first time since pre-season knee surgery in a major boost to his hopes of playing in round one.
Fyfe had surgery in January and has been on a modified program this pre-season. But he is still a chance to head to Geelong to take on the Cats in a fortnight’s time.
The former skipper was with the main group for drills, but did not take part in a brief 18 v 18 match simulation.
Fellow midfielder Hayden Young has been ruled out of the clash with a hamstring injury he suffered at training on Saturday.
Young ran slow laps at Dockers training on Thursday as he begins to recovery. That could open up a gap for a midfielder to play, with draftee Murphy Reid, as well as fourth-year pair Matt Johnson and Neil Erasmus also vying for a place.
