Ohio State doubles as an early epitome of a newfangled concept: the idea a college football team playing for a national championship even after weathering a second loss so harrowing that players might have spent the ensuing evening unable to eat, or reviewing haunting plays on a cranial loop, or summoning a higher power without even asking how a higher power could have green-lit such a doomsday.
