Prior to joining Manchester United, Mason Mount was reportedly linked with Liverpool and Arsenal.

Last summer, Mount’s future at Chelsea was uncertain, leading to interest from the Reds and Arsenal. However, the Gunners decided to go with Kai Havertz instead, since Mount reportedly favored a move to United.

Havertz joined Arsenal in June of last year for £60 million, plus an additional £5 million in add-ons. Following this, Mount signed the Red Devils for £60 million. His contract with Chelsea was set to expire this summer, and he might have departed for free if the club hadn’t sold him last year.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea received first contact from Liverpool and Arsenal regarding Mount in April of last year. He did, however, emphasize that Old Trafford was always his preferred destination.

According to Romano on CaughtOffside, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly told confidants that they were close to signing Mason Mount from Chelsea.

“My understanding is that there were discussions with both Arsenal and Liverpool while his future at Chelsea remained unknown, but this was not in the summer; it was around April when clubs began to inquire about Mount’s contract terms. That’s it, but Man United has always been the player’s top priority.”

Mount has struggled throughout an injury-plagued season in Manchester. The 25-year-old has only appeared in 12 games across all competitions this season and has one assist.

Liverpool will meet Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford.on Sunday.
