will.i.am remembers Liam Payne, prays for his spirit after tragic death

will.i.am has spoken about the passing of Liam Payne, sharing that he is “praying for the spirit” of the former One Direction star, who tragically passed away in October 2024. Liam, who was only 31 years old, died after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. Even months after the tragedy, will.i.am reflects on Liam’s untimely death and continues to keep the singer in his thoughts, alongside Cheryl and their son Bear.

In an interview at the 11th Breakthrough Prize ceremony, will.i.am expressed his heartfelt sympathy for Cheryl, her son, and Liam’s family. He said, “I pray for Cheryl and her kid. I pray for Liam’s spirit and his family.” The rapper’s deep empathy for those left behind is evident, as he continues to remember the One Direction star fondly.

Beyond his reflections on Liam, will.i.am also discussed his concerns about social media. He criticized platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, accusing their algorithms of amplifying hate and negativity. According to will.i.am, the algorithms are designed in a way that brings out the worst in people. He emphasized that social media platforms need to undergo a major change to promote positive behaviors, especially as artificial intelligence continues to grow.

He also made a pointed remark about AI, cautioning that the technology could reflect the cruelty of humanity if not properly managed. “We need to change the algorithm to be more mindful,” he said, expressing his worries about AI’s potential to mirror human inhumanity. This focus on AI and its implications has been something will.i.am has raised concerns about for a while.

In previous statements, will.i.am warned that AI, while powerful, is an illusion. Unlike humans, AI can’t experience emotions or love, even though it may simulate them. He called for a return to true human creativity and emotional expression, free from the constraints of algorithms and digital competition. “We need to get back to truly being imaginative,” he said, stressing the importance of remembering our humanity in a world increasingly influenced by technology.
