The NFL’s hottest tickets are still for the Detroit Lions.
Secondary ticket markets are beginning to level off as the Lions’ Divisional Round game against the Washington Commanders is scheduled for Saturday, January 20 at 8 p.m. ET at Ford Field. Additionally, Lions tickets will be far more expensive than those for any other NFL playoff game this season if they continue with Monday morning’s pricing.
The Lions-Commanders get-in price is actually greater than the COMBINED get-in price for the other three Divisional Round games, according to Vivid Seats, via ESPN. Theoretically, that means you could spend less ($465) on tickets for each of the other second-round games than you would for a single Lions vs. Commanders ticket ($470).
This is not a novel situation. Lions tickets were selling for more money on the secondary market than those of any other team from the start of the season. According to CNN Business, tickets for the Lions vs. Buccaneers Divisional Round game last year averaged over $1,000 per person, which was over twice the previous record for a Divisional Round game.
This makes it easier to see why Lions season ticket prices will be significantly rising for the second consecutive year. Fans who simply want to watch their beloved team for a fair fee will surely find this to be a frustrating development, but it’s the regrettable outcome of having a very successful team and a devoted fan base that is prepared to pay a lot of money for their product.
