Michael Sweet jokingly suggests starting a Stryper tribute band and his reasons for doing so
How do artists feel about other bands paying âtributeâ to them? Stryper frontman Michael Sweet kind of revealed what his thoughts are in that regard by outlining what he perceives to be the advantages of him starting a Stryper tribute band.
In case you donât know what a tribute band may be, Pro Tribute Bandsâ website provides a good outline:
âThe concept of tribute bands involves recreating the songs, sound composition, and performance of a particular artist as a way of honoring their musical talent.
Not to be confused with a cover band, a tribute band typically focuses on only one group, presenting an act that mimics the originalâs look and intensity.
The history of tribute bands isnât as old as some might believe. Nor is it a new phenomenon. However, while it is hard to pinpoint an exact date, tribute bands first came into the limelight in the 1960s.
Today, they are a music industry staple, with thousands of tribute bands worldwide.â
The following message was posted on Sweetâs Facebook page earlier today:
âIâm thinking about starting a Stryper tribute band. Hereâs why:
We could gain weight and no one would even care.
If we go bald, does it matter?
We could experiment with the color scheme and no one would notice.
We most likely would get booked more easily and get paid more per showđł
We could do any Stryper song we want (or not) and not hear any negative commentsđ¤ˇââď¸
We could wear wigs and it would be cool instead of corny.
We could/would make Robert set up backwards so no one could see him and we would call him the âNon-Visualâ Timekeeperđ¤Ş
I could/would just play guitar and then people might just stop saying to me night after night âI never knew you played guitarâđ¤Ż
We could spell Stryper with an âiâ and and add a âpâ and officially go on the books as âStripperâ. And of course, we would bring back Roberts stripper pole so he could swing from it all night longđ
And last but not least, we could basically live normal lives and not get flack for everything we say, do and or thinkđ¤ˇââď¸đ¤Śââď¸â
