LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -Michael Sweet is the lead singer of one of the most popular and long-lasting Christian hard rock bands. Sweet fronts the band Stryper, but next week, he’s coming to Kentucky for a rare solo concert.
Stryper has been churning out music for 40 years.
“We’re just simple guys who sin like everyone else. Who have shortcomings and issues we are trying to work out,” said Sweet.
Stryper has toured the world and recorded 15 albums. They’ve been known to break down barriers in recording and performing a faith-based blend of hard rock music. Sweet has branched out to perform also by himself.
“It’s an opportunity for me to spread my wings a little bit and do things a little different. Experiment a little bit more. Try new things,” Sweet said.
On Thursday, December 5th he’ll bring that performance to Morehead State University’s Button Auditorium.
“It’s just going to be me playing songs and, like you said, talking. I might play a few and talk, tell stories about them. Talk about them how they came to be.”
Sweet performs a lot of concerts with Stryper and doesn’t perform concerts like this very often.
“These are my favorite shows. Because it feels like I am sitting in someone’s living room and hanging out with family.”
Instead of a band with a bunch of electric guitars and drums, the show will just be him and an acoustic guitar.
“With something like this, it’s more of a deeper personal experience that I personally love.”
The concert is Thursday, December 5th at Button Auditorium on the campus of Morehead State University.
