Actor Kim Soo Hyun and his management company, Gold Medalist, have escalated their legal battle against Kim Se Ui, the YouTuber behind the controversial channel Garo Sero Institute. They have officially filed additional criminal charges citing continued stalking behavior.
On April 30th (KST), Gold Medalist released a public statement announcing their decision to pursue further legal action. The agency emphasized that both it and Kim Soo Hyun had submitted new charges under Korea’s Anti-Stalking Act, targeting the persistent conduct of Kim Se Ui.
The agency explained that this wasn’t the first instance of legal action. A previous complaint had already been submitted on April 1st against Kim Se Ui for similar accusations. They assert that the YouTuber’s repeated sharing of defamatory and misleading content about the actor meets the legal criteria for stalking.
Gold Medalist shared that law enforcement had reviewed the case and agreed that Kim Se Ui’s actions met the legal threshold for stalking. As a result, the authorities sought a provisional court order to stop the YouTuber’s actions on April 22nd.
Following this request, the Seoul Central District Court approved the injunction on April 23rd. This legal measure was intended to restrict Kim Se Ui from continuing his activities targeting Kim Soo Hyun.
However, despite receiving official notice of the court’s decision on April 24th, Kim Se Ui reportedly defied the ruling. According to the agency, he resumed disseminating harmful content about the actor through his YouTube platform.
Gold Medalist emphasized that this defiance is not just a civil violation but a criminal one. They stated that under Article 20, Paragraph 2 of the Anti-Stalking Act, ignoring a court’s order could lead to imprisonment for up to two years or a monetary fine reaching 20 million KRW.
In conclusion, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its artist. It declared that due to Kim Se Ui’s non-compliance and ongoing harmful behavior, it has taken swift additional legal steps to ensure accountability and prevent further damage.
