Nebraska wide receiver Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda intends to use the NCAA Transfer Portal. Garcia-Castaneda played three seasons at Nebraska after two seasons at New Mexico State and a year at Saddleback College.
Garcia-Castaneda appeared in all 13 Nebraska games this season, making one reception for 10 yards. Garcia-Castenada has seven catches for 137 yards and one touchdown during three seasons at Nebraska.
Garcia-Castaneda appeared in 12 games over his two years at New Mexico State. He caught 56 receptions for 953 yards and 13 touchdowns during his one season at Saddleback. The 6-foot-1 wide receiver grabbed a touchdown pass in ten straight games his way to all-conference honors.
Garcia-Castaneda attended Twentynine Palms High School (CA) and was not ranked by the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that includes all four main recruiting media businesses.
He is the 26th Nebraska player to use the transfer portal this offseason. In exchange, the Cornhuskers have added 16 players through the transfer portal this offseason, putting them at No. 38 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Ranking.
Wide receivers Dane Key and Nyziah Hunter stand out among Nebraska’s transfer class. The exceptional pair would have undoubtedly taken a significant portion of Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda’s snaps, which may have influenced his decision.
Nebraska ended the 2024 season with a 7-6 record. It was head coach Matt Rhule’s second year in charge of the program. Although the Cornhuskers’ season was far from ideal, they ended on a high note by defeating Boston College 20-15 in the Pinstripe Bowl.
Rhule explained how the victory will boost Nebraska into the summer.
“It was an experience we needed,” Rhule added. “And we fielded a number of young players. Vincent Shavers was all over the field. Donovan Jones, who redshirted this year, played cornerback for half the game. We gave several young guys some experience.
“I believe that the perspective of, ‘Hey, we got it done in the postseason,’ prepares us for the future. We’ve played a lot of young players, so they’ve gained perspective, and this was a great three or four weeks for us.”
The transfer site officially started on December 7 and ended on December 28, however players on postseason teams will have an additional five days to enter the portal once their season ends.
