An Edinburgh killer who boasted about enjoying being a murderer will serve an additional six months in prison after being detected with a homemade weapon in his cell.

Daniel Brown, a lifer, said he fashioned the homemade knife out of fear of being attacked by other inmates at Perth Prison’s maximum security level.

According to Perth Sheriff Court, a search of Brown’s cell was conducted, and he voluntarily handed over the weapon, a prison-issue razor blade encased in a plastic grip.

Brown, 25, of Edinburgh, who will not be eligible for parole until at least 2037, admits to carrying an unlawful firearm in the jail on December 1, 2022.

Sheriff Jennifer Bain KC added 24 weeks to his sentence, stating, “I take into account everything that has been said and the fact that you are serving a life sentence.”

“You were in possession of an offensive weapon in custody which had the potential to harm yourself and others.”

The court was told that Brown had been suffering from “anxiety” in Perth Prison and has now been transferred to Addiewell Prison, which was “much better for him.”

Brown was sentenced to at least 15 years and 10 months in prison after admitting to the murder of Daryl Nimmo in Dalry, Ayrshire, in April 2019.

The High Court in Glasgow heard how he stabbed Mr Nimmo to death while boasting, “I am a murderer and I like it.”
