The Philadelphia Eagles find themselves in an intriguing position heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. Fresh off their Super Bowl 59 victory, the team has lost key players through free agency and retirement. While they’ve re-signed some of their own and brought in a few intriguing replacements, there’s still work to be done to maintain a championship-caliber roster.
With the draft approaching, Howie Roseman should consider another bold move that could significantly upgrade the defensive front: trading for former No. 1 overall pick Travon Walker.
When first-overall edge rushers don’t immediately develop into superstars like Myles Garrett, teams often hesitate to commit long-term. Walker, while highly productive, isn’t better than his Jaguars teammate Josh Hines-Allen, who signed a five-year, $150 million extension in 2024. Unless Walker is willing to accept a deal worth significantly less, Jacksonville may be wise to trade him while his value remains high.
Heading into the 2022 NFL Draft, Walker was widely regarded as a top prospect. Though his college production wasn’t elite, he soared up draft boards due to his freakish athleticism, running a 4.51 40-yard dash at 272 pounds with a 35.5-inch vertical jump. That athleticism has translated to on-field success, as Walker has posted back-to-back double-digit sack seasons. His 2024 campaign was his best yet—61 tackles, 15 quarterback hits, and 13 tackles for loss in 17 games.
