Duran Duran gave fans more of what they’ve been hoping for just a few days ago: new music. The pop band recently re-released their most recent album, Danse Macabre, as a deluxe edition, which included previously unheard material. One of the tunes featured on the project has become a quick hit in their home country, showing that there’s still an interest in new work from the Grammy winners.
“Evil Woman” arrives on a pair of rankings in the U.K. this week. The latest single from the English rockers succeeds thanks to a healthy first-frame sales count, as the tune only manages to appear on tallies that are focused on pure purchases.
The track opens highest between the two rankings it’s present on at the moment on the Official Singles Downloads tally. On that list, which tracks only the most-downloaded cuts across the pond, Duran Duran’s latest offering opens at No. 70.
The same track is also new on the Official Singles Sales chart. That list includes all forms of fans buying a song from a musical artist, whether it be downloads from stores like iTunes or purchases on any physical medium, such as CD or vinyl. “Evil Woman” enters that roster at No. 78.
“Evil Woman” marks Duran Duran’s eighth career hit on the Official Singles Sales chart. The group has collected just one more appearance on the Official Singles Downloads tally.
While Duran Duran scores a hit with “Evil Woman,” the title isn’t originally theirs. The song was first made famous by Electric Light Orchestra back in 1975, when it was released as a single from the band’s album Face the Music. The tune rocketed into the top 10 on the main songs charts in both the U.K. and the U.S., and it helped the rising talents prove that they were steady hitmakers.
“Evil Woman” is the second song from the deluxe edition of Danse Macabre to reach the two charts it debuts on this week. “New Moon (Dark Phase)” appeared on the same pair of rosters just last month, and it even managed to climb a few rungs higher than their latest entry.
