Shaylee Bent, a Gold Coast forward, claimed that she was relieved by her partner David Fifita’s decision to turn down a $3.3 million deal with the Roosters and recommit to the Titans. Fifita stunned the NRL world earlier this month when he changed his mind about leaving the Titans at the conclusion of the season.

Fifita initially committed to join the Roosters beginning next season, signing a four-year contract and rejecting a rival offer from Penrith in the process. However, the much sought-after player had second thoughts and finally pulled the plug on the deal during his ten-day cooling-off period, opting to re-sign with the Titans for another two seasons.

While the Titans were relieved that their top player had decided to stay, no one was more excited than his partner. After four seasons with the Dragons, Bent joined the Titans ahead of the 2023 NRLW season.

Her connection with Fifita, which began in 2022, played a significant role in her choice to go to the Gold Coast. They had a long-distance romance for a year until she moved to Queensland.

Speaking at the NRL’s Indigenous Round kickoff, Bent expressed gratitude that they would no longer have to divide their time between Sydney and the Gold Coast. “I was honestly so pleased,” Bent acknowledged.

” I’ve gone from Penrith to the Gold Coast; I’d been back and forth from the Dragons. To finally have a year where I’m on the Gold Coast full-time and don’t have to travel great distances back and forth is quite satisfying for me.”

Bent is out of contract at the end of the upcoming NRLW season, which begins on July 25, but has declared that she intends to stay on the Gold Coast. “I’m so thankful that we’re both at the Titans this year and hopefully, for me next year as well because my life is up there now,” said Bent.

“I’m quite happy where I am at the Titans, and I adore my squad. The success we enjoyed last year, making it to the grand final after falling short the year before. So, we’re developing something great, and I want to be there.

“It’s the same with David; the Gold Coast is now our home. We adore the community, the supporters, the club, and our teams. We’ve made a life up there, and we’re really happy.”

Trent Robinson is delighted David Fifita backflipped.

Trent Robinson is delighted that the Fifita circus is finally done, and he stresses that he did not travel to Sydney unless he was truly interested. “I am delighted there was a 10-day cooling down period. “I believe it is a good thing if someone does not want to be there,” Roosters coach Robinson said.

“Circumstances arise. I’m not sure what happened. I don’t want them to come down for four years and not want to be there.”

Robinson did, however, express disappointment that he would no longer have the opportunity to work with Fifita. “When it happens, you know something wasn’t right. It was a better situation for us to be in, with him not coming,” he remarked. “I was excited by the challenge (of coaching Fifita) but not any more.
