Alabama football received its first commitment for the 2026 recruiting class on Saturday. Jamarrion Gordon, an in-state defensive back who plays high school football at Jackson, has revealed his decision to attend the Crimson Tide.

Gordon is a four-star prospect, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. The composite ranks him as the No. 17 safety in the class and the No. 186 player overall.

“He’s an elite corner,” Jackson coach Cody Flournoy stated. “He has that extra gear for exceptional recovery speed. Even if he doesn’t play anything perfectly, he can break down and defend it. He has wonderful feet and hands. I’ve coached in a variety of other areas. He is more than just a small-town, 4A level player. “He could play in any program.”

Gordon announced the news over social media. He made the news along with Hayes Fawcett of On3.

He predominantly played cornerback at Jackson last season, but he is versatile enough to play anywhere in the defensive backfield. He chose Alabama over offers from Auburn, Florida, and Georgia, among others.

Gordon ended his second season at Jackson with 30 tackles, including two for loss. The 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back also had an interception, sack, forced fumble, and seven pass breakups.

He also plays receiver and returns kicks for the Aggies and comes from a talented family. His brother, Jamaal Pritchett, is a South Alabama wide receiver. His cousin is Nehemiah Pritchett, a former Auburn defensive back who now plays for the Seattle Seahawks.

“So he’s not only a great athlete but has a great system around him,” added Flournoy.

Most teams are just starting to ramp up their 2026 recruiting classes, with much of the SEC currently without a single commitment. Gordon earned the Tide’s first commitment for the class.
