Former Ohio State football player J.K. Dobbins was one of the best running backs in Ohio State history. He ran for nearly 2000 yards in his final season before heading to the NFL. He ended up becoming a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens.

That has been the highlight of his NFL career so far. Unfortunately, he has experienced a multitude of ailments. After a promising rookie year that saw him rush for 805 yards and 9 touchdowns, he hasn’t come close to those figures since. He’s blown out his knee twice and has torn his Achilles.

Quite frankly, Dobbins has never been able to stay well. He’s still just 25 and has a lot of tread on his tires. He only needs to be given a chance for playing time. Dobbins also needs to prove he can stay healthy. One team is giving him another chance to show that.

Dobbins signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers on Wednesday to play for Jim Harbaugh. It will be a strange pairing to see the former Ohio State football player play for the former Michigan coach. But this is his last chance in the league.

If Dobbins suffers another season-ending injury, he might not receive another chance in the NFL. He might be listed as damaged goods. It would be a label he’s earned. It sucks since he was one of the most gifted running backs I’ve ever seen come through Columbus.

It would be a really beautiful comeback story if Dobbins could resurrect his career in LA. With Austin Ekler gone, he will be vying with his former Ravens colleague Gus Edwards for the starting running back slot. It would be wonderful to see him win it and perform well.
