Kobe Prentice reflects on team’s reaction to Nick Saban announcing retirement
Alabama football wide receiver Kobe Prentice spoke with Roger Hoover of the Crimson Tide Sports Network about a variety of topics, including the meeting at which Nick Saban informed his players that he was retiring.
Hoover asked Prentice about the reactions he saw from Tide players when Saban announced the news.
“You could hear a pin drop in there,” Prentice responded. “Everyone seemed unwell. I looked ill. It was wild. It was undoubtedly a memorable moment. He spoke it as if it was impossible. I couldn’t believe it, but I knew he wouldn’t be able to coach forever. Given his age, it’s incredible that he was still coaching us. However, it was done with respect. He gave a lot to Alabama. I believe he gave it his all and performed to the best of his ability.
The Alabama native also expressed his initial feelings upon the announcement.
“Immediately, I am thinking in my head, I am not going anywhere,” Prentice remarked. “I am honored to be able to play for you, but its Roll Tide.”
"You could hear a pin drop in that room."
