Liverpool had no business dominating their match against Manchester City, especially considering the number of injuries sustained by the Reds yesterday. After all, this is practically Pep Guardiola’s powerhouse team at full strength. a group that had won three titles the previous year.

Yet, Guardiola’s squad never seemed deserving of that title, especially in the second half. Throughout the entire game, Manchester City was unable to generate any opportunities from open play. And then Liverpool launched an offensive assault on them in the second half. An assault that ought to have rewarded the Reds with more than Alexis Mac Allister’s lone penalty goal.

Liverpool may still be proud of themselves even though they will be disappointed by the opportunities they lost. It was an outstanding performance. This is the kind of play that indicates the Reds have a promising future.
