Liverpool look to have finally decided who would be their new sporting director.

The Reds have been without a significant player since Jorg Schmadtke quit his interim appointment in January. Since Julian Ward’s departure in the summer of 2023, no one has been permanently in place at Anfield.

Liverpool has not given up, though. Former transfer guru Michael Edwards was reportedly approached just last month, but he declined a reunion with the Reds. Many more have also been mentioned.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on X, Liverpool have now made Bournemouth’s Richard Hughes their ‘first choice’ target.

“Richard Hughes will leave AFC Bournemouth at the end of the season,” said the Italian journalist. “He remains first choice of LFC as new technical director.”

Hughes’ first choice for Liverpool
Hughes’ name has been linked to Liverpool in recent months. However, the clamor surrounding the former Arsenal junior teamer has not been very loud.

Nonetheless, it appears like Hughes is the guy the Reds want in place.

According to afcb.co.uk yesterday, the 44-year-old will depart the Cherries at the conclusion of the season. It appears that things are falling into place.
Many Liverpool fans will have no idea who Hughes is, never alone how he operates in the transfer market.

However, The Daily Mail revealed earlier this week that the Glaswegian has a close friendship with Edwards and has been recommended by the former Liverpool star.
