Ian Wright has shared his opinion on this weekend’s Premier League title clash between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield.

Liverpool comes into the game off a dramatic 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, thanks to a Darwin Nunez goal in the 99th minute. That meant the Reds moved four points clear of City at the top of the table.

On Sunday, the reigning champions cut the points deficit between the clubs to one. City came from behind to overcome Manchester United 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

However, the old rivals are not the only teams vying for the championship. Arsenal resumed their great run of form on Monday night, defeating relegation-threatened Sheffield United 6-0 at Bramall Lane. It was Arsenal’s eighth consecutive league victory, during which they had scored 31 goals.

Arsenal, who are two points behind Liverpool in third place, would take the lead if they beat Brentford at home late on Saturday. But all eyes will be on Merseyside on Sunday, when Jurgen Klopp’s and Pep Guardiola’s juggernauts clash.

Wright, one of the best goalscorers in Premier League history, will have a strong interest as a Gunners hero. But, after joking about how he’d like the big game to go, he revealed who he thinks would win.

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, he said, “I just had a strange thought. Can they both lose? That sprung into my brain. Can they both lose for Arsenal, please?

“But, looking at it from Liverpool’s perspective, is it at the Etihad? It is at Anfield! At this point, I would prefer Liverpool.”

Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that Wright supported the Reds. Speaking earlier this year, after manager Jurgen Klopp announced his desire to quit the club at the end of the season, the former England player confessed he must have a soft spot for Liverpool.

Wright stated, “People say I’m a closet Liverpool supporter, and if shock and sadness make me a closet (fan), then I am because I was very upset to hear the news.

“With the announcement, you’d really believe him. He mentioned fatigue and tiredness; he appeared exhausted. It is very sad.”
