Jamal Musiala, a top player for Bayern Munich, has declined a new contract, fueling speculation that he may go to the Premier League this summer. His admirers include Liverpool and Manchester City.

In his quest of a summer move to the Premier League, Jamal Musiala has declined a new contract offer from Bayern Munich.

Last month, it was revealed that Manchester City and Liverpool were the front-runners to recruit Musiala. Both English teams recently dispatched scouts to watch the German international play for Bayer Leverkusen.

Musiala, a midfielder, was still being considered for a new deal with Bayern, which would have paid £150,000 per week. His subsequent revelation that he will not be signing it has stoked speculation that he may leave the club in July, after informing the Bundesliga heavyweights of his choice.

City learned about the decision last week and are growing increasingly optimistic that they will win the battle for the much sought-after Musiala, who turned 21 last week.

Although Germany has been the most persistent suitor in Pep Guardiola’s pursuit of the playmaker (25 times), the Daily Star was first to reveal that Liverpool aren’t the only English team posing a threat.

Chelsea, who shown interest in the player as a youth product, are also expected to be involved when the transfer market opens at the end of the season.

The Blues’ chances of persuading Musiala to choose Stamford Bridge over the Etihad or Anfield are limited unless they win the FA Cup and qualify for the Europa League.

Musiala will cost at least £80 million to sign, not considering his weekly wage of around £200,000. He has two years left on his current Bayern deal.
