The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays are both looking for the same player, but Toronto may have a backup plan. That’s what John Schneider has done this offseason after missing out on elite players like Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes. The Blue Jays did break through after reportedly signing Anthony Santander to a large contract, and they may not be done. Toronto is allegedly interested in Alex Bregman, as are several other teams, including the Red Sox. However, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman dismissed the suggestion Wednesday, saying the Jays were “more in” on Pete Alonso than Bregman. That arrived on the same day.
That occurred on the same day he stated that Boston was the “most likely” team to sign the two-time World Series winner. On Tuesday, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand claimed that the Jays were interested in both Alonso and Jurickson Profar. The Blue Jays’ signing of Alonso would most likely put Vladimir Gurrero Jr. to third base, as Santander would ideally be their designated hitter. Guerrero may be okay with that idea if additional talent comes to Toronto, which might impact his possible free agency in 2026.
