Liverpool’s owners, FSG, will not rush into making a choice on who should replace Jurgen Klopp as manager at the end of the season.

Liverpool’s reaction to Jurgen Klopp’s news that he will leave Anfield at the end of the season could not have been more spectacular.

Since the manager’s shocking revelation, the club has scored nine goals in two games and enters Sunday’s match against Arsenal at the Emirates with high spirits.

A week later, the squad seemed to have responded to Klopp’s rallying cry: don’t look past the next game. The future is today.

The 56-year-old’s every thought and emotion is centered on the next four months. In June, he’ll be able to pause, catch his breath, and reflect on his time in Merseyside.

But life at Anfield will continue. The void left by Klopp must be filled. Charismatic managers can overpower clubs with their personalities.

When gaming giants leave, they may unintentionally leave behind a burning heap.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owners, lack personality. They have a tremendous challenge ahead of them: find someone to replace Klopp. Even before that, they must hire a sporting director, a post that has not been satisfactorily filled since Michael Edwards’ resignation two years prior.

It’s no secret that FSG wanted Edwards back. He was the first person they called after the Klopp news broke. The 44-year-old instantly declined the opportunity.

Tim Steidten’s name has come up several times in connection with the post at Anfield. The West Ham United technical director was at Bayer Leverkusen when the German club hired Xabi Alonso, one of the contenders to succeed Klopp. This could be an example of outsiders connecting them
