After a breakthrough in negotiations, Stockport County has achieved a full agreement to buy Man United defender Rhys Bennett, sources have told Football Insider

It is anticipated that the 20-year-old’s loan capture will be revealed today.

Bennett will be coming to Edgeley Park as a result of the League Two leaders’ successful negotiations with Manchester United this month.

Bennett, a center-back with the Red Devils, joined the team at the Under-10 level and came through the academy.

The Manchester-born star is yet to make his first team debut, but he has appeared on the bench for Erik ten Hag’s senior squad four times, including twice this season.

Bennett has made eight appearances for United’s Under-21 team this season after missing the first half of 2023 due to a major injury.

With the club’s youth teams, he has made 67 appearances overall, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

The 20-year-old center back will soon begin his first senior loan with Stockport, who will look to go up to League One in just two seasons after returning to the EFL.

Bennett, who led United to the FA Youth Cup championship in 2022, signed a new contract at Old Trafford in July of last year.

On Saturday, January 20, the kid’s new team plays Notts County, leading them by two points over Wrexham, who are in second place.

Man United is currently eight points off of the top four in the Premier League, sitting in seventh place.
