HEARTWARMING: Chris Stapleton visits lone survivor of deadly car accident that occurred en route to his Missouri concert

Chris Stapleton paid a visit to a victim of a fatal vehicle accident that occurred on her way to see his concert with her family in June.

The country artist surprised Alex Moffett, 19, of Erie, Colorado, in the hospital after discovering she was on her way to his concert with her family when they were hit by another vehicle.

The Montana State University student had just eaten lunch with her family, which included her younger sister, father, and grandmother, and they were on their way to Stapleton’s All-American Road Show event in Kansas City.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the other motorist was a 16-year-old youngster who fell asleep behind the wheel but survived the accident.

Alex’s father, Derek Moffett, 55, and grandmother, Patricia Moffett, 83, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Alex and her sister Catherine Moffett, 16, were taken from Warrensburg to the Research Medical Centre in Kansas City.

During her extended rehabilitation, medical physicians discovered that Alex Moffett and her family had travelled largely for Stapleton’s concert and contacted the artist. One of Alex’s physicians was able to reach Stapleton and share her tale with him. Stapleton and his wife Morgane Stapleton visited the adolescent in June.

However, Alex’s younger sister, Catherine, did not make it.

Alex survived the collision, however she sustained a punctured lung and many fractures to her pelvis, ribs, arm, wrist, and orbital bones.

She has undergone facial reconstructive, elbow replacement, and wrist surgery.

On the way to Stapleton’s act, their father took them to see their grandmother Patricia in Overland Park, Kansas; they were also on their way to Warrensburg, the town where their grandmother grew up.

During her protracted rehabilitation, medical physicians discovered that Alex and her family had travelled especially for Stapleton’s concert and contacted the singer.

One of Alex’s physicians was able to reach Stapleton and share her tale with him.

Amid her long journey to recovery, her doctors learned Alex Moffett and her family's trip was primarily for Stapleton's concert and reached out to the singer. Alex told FOX 4 Kansas City that they were meant to merely have a FaceTime with him, but when they called, they said, “We’re in really bad service, we’ll call you back in a few minutes.”

‘Like a minute later, we had a knock on my door, and they just came in,’ she added of the surprise, which happened on Father’s Day, according to the site.

During the same interview, Alex discussed the painful loss for her and her family, particularly with the holidays approaching.

‘Every time I see a picture of my sister, my heart simply freezes for a minute,’ she explained. ‘It’s incredibly difficult to just process.

‘My dad was my best buddy ever,’ she added. “He was the best person.”

She added about the other driver: ‘Obviously, he didn’t want to kill three people, but he stole my entire family away from me.

‘Part of me wants his life to end, but another part of me wants him to be able to go on and live a truly good life, make something of it, and make a difference in the world.
