Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback for the New York Jets, has had a number of injuries thus far this NFL season. His knee and ankle ailments, the latter of which took a somewhat terrible turn during a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London, have put him on the team’s injury report for the past six weeks. The Jets said this week that a third injury could be added to the list.
Rodgers’ hamstring problem “flared up” during the Jets’ 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, according to head coach Jeff Ulbrich. The interim coach said that Rodgers’ mobility might have been affected as well. The more injuries that accumulate on a 40-year-old’s body, the more alarming it is for New York, even though it doesn’t sound like anything terrible. Only if Rodgers is playing at his best will the Jets have a chance to make the playoff run they so urgently need. Even the finest quarterbacks find it difficult to accomplish that when dealing with more serious injuries.
The fact that Rodgers’s peak is no longer sufficient is, of course, a constant reminder. He has led the Jets to two victories in six games and completed 61.7% of his passes for 1,663 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. To be fair, it takes time for athletes to fully recover from an Achilles injury, and perhaps things will get better after newly acquired star wideout Davante Adams settles in.
