Louisville, Kentucky (WDRB) Louisville police are looking into a homicide after a man was discovered dead near Petersburg Park in the Newburg neighbourhood.

According to Louisville Metro Police spokesperson John Bradley, officers arrived at the intersection of East Indian Trail and Petersburg Road shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

He stated that the cops responded to a “undoubtedly deceased” guy suffering from “traumatic wounds of some nature.” Police said the body of a Hispanic guy in his twenties was discovered in a forested area near the intersection.

“It was a call from a passerby saying they found or saw an unresponsive subject in the wooded area,” LMPD 6th Division Maj. Mindy Vance explained. “All I can say at this point is that the injuries are consistent with a criminal homicide. So this is not a natural death.”

Sherri Dunn, who was passing through the area on Monday, said she frequently walks in Petersburg Park.

“Even though I don’t live in this neighbourhood, I still come back to walk,” she told me. “It’s been a very safe place to walk, but to have this type of situation happen right here, that’s real close.”

According to police, the LMPD Homicide Unit is investigating the crime, but no suspects have been identified.

“Any time there’s an incident like this, there’s a canvassing in the neighbourhood, looking over at the crime scene, stuff like that,” Vance told the reporter. “That’s why everything is roped off again. They’re looking for any leads or evidence that may have been left behind.
