Daniel Dubois gives update on Don Charles sacking rumours ahead of Anthony Joshua fight

The trainer’s absence has dominated the pre-fight hype.
Daniel Dubois is venturing into unfamiliar terrain on Saturday night.

He will defend his IBF heavyweight title for the first time in a packed Wembley Stadium against Anthony Joshua, who is used to fighting in such conditions.

One worry about Dubois is if he can handle the gravity of the occasion, with some crediting head trainer Don Charles with ensuring that “Dynamite” does not experience stage fright.

However, Charles has been noticeably absent during fight week, with some rumors circulating that he was fired by Dubois ahead of the biggest bout of his career.

During Thursday’s final press conference, Dubois was asked about Charles’ situation and his role on the training team.

“Listen, as long as he’s in my corner on fight night, I’m alright,” Dubois told the crowd.

It has since been revealed that Charles is still present, but has been absent from fight week due to illness. He will return to the ring when Dubois and Joshua face off live on DAZN.
