Mercedes F1 special livery to mark Petronas’ 50th anniversary; Hamilton and Russell will visit Malaysia.
The Malaysian Grand Prix may not be returning anytime soon, but this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix will have a taste of home. This is because the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team will employ a unique livery to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its title sponsor, Petronas.
The W15 E Performance race car, which has won three races in a topsy-turvy 2024 season, will replace Stuttgart’s distinctive silver with the national oil and gas company’s emerald green on the nose and engine cover. The color is extended to the side pods where the Petronas script is located, and the car will also include special 50th anniversary logos.
Petronas has been inextricably tied with Mercedes since the latter’s comeback to the competition as a full-works entry in 2010. The local company’s fuel and lubricants have propelled the team to all seven drivers’ championships and a record-breaking eight constructors’ championships, secured over a period of hybrid-era dominance from 2014 to 2021, so it’s little surprise the team is giving such a large tribute.

Singapore’s proximity to home also allows the team to visit Malaysia. Drivers Lewis Hamilton (his final appearance in Petronas colours before joining Ferrari) and George Russell, as well as team principal Toto Wolff, will be visiting our shores over the next week as part of the golden jubilee festivities.
“We look forward to continuing our relationship for many more years to come, and with exciting challenges ahead such as the introduction of sustainable fuels in 2026,” disclosed Wolff. “This livery is therefore not only a celebration of their 50th anniversary, but a reflection of Petronas’ importance in our team’s story and honours our journey together.”
Hamilton continued, “Since I joined the team in 2013, Petronas has been there every step of the way.” They’ve been instrumental in our success, helping me win six drivers’ world championships. It’s an honor to commemorate this milestone and our journey together at such a significant race.

Russell stated, “As title and technical partner, Petronas is crucial to everything we do on track. It is wonderful to highlight the significance of our friendship at the event closest to home. I’m also looking forward to visiting Malaysia next week to continue the celebrations. It is always a pleasure to visit the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur and meet the many people who have contributed to the company’s success over the last 50 years and will continue to do so for the future 50.”
